The government has introduced a concessionary loan scheme to support Small and Medium-scale (SME) paddy millers and cooperative societies in purchasing paddy during the 2024/2025 Maha Season.

This initiative aims to ensure a fair price for farmers’ paddy harvest.

According to the Department of Development Finance under the Ministry of Finance, the loan scheme will be active from January 3 to May 15, 2025. The program targets SME paddy millers and cooperative societies with a maximum daily milling capacity of 25 metric tonnes.

Borrowers can access loans up to Rs. 50 million at an interest rate of 7% per annum, repayable within 180 days. The total funds allocated for the scheme amount to Rs. 10,000 million, which will be disbursed through banks.

Additionally, the scheme includes purchasing paddy at a Minimum Purchase Price set by the Department of Agriculture to guarantee reasonable returns for farmers.
