A total of 30 families have been evacuated from the vicinity of the Diwulwewa tank following the discovery of a leak in its embankment. The leak, which began as a small water seepage, has since expanded into a significant outflow, raising concerns of a potential breach.

Heavy rainfall over the past few days caused the Diwulwewa tank to overflow, further exacerbating the situation. Local residents reported noticing the water leak emerging from the embankment, prompting immediate action by authorities.

In response to the growing risk, the Divulwewa Maha Vidyalaya has been temporarily closed, and traffic along the main road connecting Galenbindunuwewa to Dutuwewa and Yakalla has been suspended to ensure the safety of the public.

A coordinated effort is underway to prevent further damage, with police, army personnel, and local residents working together to reinforce the embankment using sandbags and other emergency measures.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, urging nearby residents to stay alert as efforts to contain the water flow continue. Further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
