Minister of Health and Mass Media, Nalinda Jayathissa has dismissed claims that the government spent Rs. 7 million on the launch of the "Clean Sri Lanka" initiative, calling the reports false and misleading.
Speaking in response to allegations made by MP Chamara Sampath Dassanayake, Minister Jayathissa clarified, “Only Rs. 900,000 was approved for the event, and even this amount has not been paid yet.” He added that rumors of large payments to a musician, lyricist, or website developers were baseless.
The Minister explained that while quotations were called for, as per standard procedure, they were ultimately rejected due to high costs. He emphasized that MP Dassanayake may have misunderstood the amounts listed in the quotations.
Jayathissa assured that not a single rupee beyond the approved Rs. 900,000 has been spent and that the government has no plans to exceed this budget.
