Two warrants have currently been issued for the arrest of former Minister Basil Rajapaksa over separate allegations, while Sri Lankan authorities have requested Interpol to issue a Blue Notice concerning him.
The warrants relate to the alleged purchase of a 1.5-acre plot of land in Brown’s Hill, Matara, using illicitly acquired funds, and the distribution of 12,000 T-shirts during the Uva Provincial Council election period using Rs. 7.8 million belonging to the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau.
Minister of Public Security Ananda Wijepala said a request had been made to Interpol to issue a Blue Notice concerning Rajapaksa, who is currently outside the country.
A senior police officer said Interpol had requested additional information from the Sri Lankan authorities in response to the request.
The officer added that steps are being taken to submit the relevant documents to Interpol.
