The Department of Meteorology has issued a severe lightning advisory for the Uva and Eastern provinces and the districts of Jaffna, Mullaitivu, Vavuniya and Polonnaruwa today (19).
The advisory is in effect until 11.30 p.m., with red alerts issued for nine districts and amber alerts for 16 districts.
The Met Department warned that thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are likely in several areas of the affected provinces and districts.
Temporary localized strong winds may also occur during thundershowers, the department cautioned.
