Speaking to the media outside the CID today, the Thera said he decided to seek legal action after enduring what he described as prolonged harassment.
He alleged that false and unverified claims had been repeatedly published on social media, with videos often uploaded late at night, leading to a large number of phone calls and harassment the following day.
Questioning the nature of the online attacks, Gnanasara Thera said such actions amounted to mental harassment and urged authorities to take appropriate action against those responsible.
He stated that he had submitted CDs containing the relevant material as evidence to support the complaint and requested the CID to conduct a thorough investigation.
The Thera also referred to an incident in which an individual allegedly encouraged others to contact him after he did not answer repeated phone calls, resulting in hundreds of calls being directed to his phone the following day.
Stressing that the situation had become intolerable, Gnanasara Thera said he was compelled to seek the intervention of the CID to bring an end to the alleged harassment.
