According to police, 17 schoolchildren and the driver of the school van sustained injuries in the accident and were admitted to hospital for treatment.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the private bus was traveling towards Kandy, while the school van was proceeding in the opposite direction when the collision occurred.
The injured victims were admitted to the Katugastota District Hospital and the National Hospital Kandy.
Police stated that further investigations into the cause of the accident are being conducted by the Katugastota Police.
Authorities have not yet released details regarding the condition of the injured passengers. Further information is expected as investigations continue.
