The two Com. Tec MultiProcedural Machines, manufactured in Germany, were officially handed over to Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa by Mahesh Fernando and Achala Moses during a special ceremony.
According to the Ministry, the machines are primarily used for therapeutic plasma exchange, also known as plasmapheresis, a specialized treatment method used in managing several life-threatening conditions reported in Sri Lanka.
The equipment is expected to strengthen treatment facilities for patients suffering from Leptospirosis, immune-related complications caused by snakebites, and individuals undergoing organ transplant procedures. In addition, the machines will support specialized treatment for children and adults with blood cancer and Thalassemia who are awaiting bone marrow or stem cell transplant surgeries.
Speaking at the event, Mahesh Fernando stated that supporting the development of Sri Lanka’s healthcare sector remains one of the company’s key priorities. He further noted that the company, as the authorized sales and service representative for the machines, would continue providing technical support to ensure uninterrupted patient care.
Meanwhile, Health Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa highlighted that the government spends a significant amount annually on medicines and medical equipment to sustain the country’s free healthcare system. He emphasized that donations of this nature play an important role in strengthening public health services and expressed appreciation to Premium International (Pvt) Ltd for its contribution to the healthcare sector.
