A special police investigation has been launched into allegations of misuse of the Presidential Fund.
Acting Inspector General of Police, Priyantha Weerasuriya has directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to carry out the inquiry.
The investigation follows a complaint submitted to Police Headquarters, calling for a probe into individuals accused of misusing the fund.
During a recent parliamentary session, it was disclosed that 34 former Members of Parliament received millions of rupees from the Presidential Fund between 2005 and 2024 for purposes unrelated to its primary objectives.
The total misuse is estimated to exceed Rs. 12.25 billion.
