Sri Lanka’s ambition to emerge as a leading artificial intelligence hub in Asia has taken a step forward with the launch of Sri Lanka AI Week 2026, a national technology initiative jointly organized by the Ministry of Digital Economy and SLT-MOBITEL.
The programme, which runs from September 25 to 30, aims to promote AI awareness, innovation, digital skills development and industry collaboration, while connecting Sri Lanka’s technology ecosystem with global AI leaders and emerging trends.
Experts from leading global technology companies, including Alibaba, ZTE, Deloitte, Google and Huawei, are participating in the programme, providing local participants with access to international expertise on the growing impact of artificial intelligence.
Speaking at the launch, SLT Group Chairman Dr. Mothilal de Silva said experts from around 15 countries are taking part in Sri Lanka AI Week.
A key highlight will be the National AI Expo, scheduled for September 29 and 30, featuring AI-powered technologies, digital transformation solutions and emerging innovations.
The programme will also include the National AI Conference, bringing together technology leaders, researchers, policymakers, startups and industry stakeholders to discuss AI, innovation, governance and digital growth. Organizers said participation in the conference will be free of charge.
Sri Lanka AI Week will conclude with the National AI Awards Night on September 30, recognizing outstanding achievements and contributions to Sri Lanka’s growing technology sector.
