The Meteorological Department has issued a Red Warning for multi-day fishing vessels operating in the deep sea areas of the Bay of Bengal.
According to the Department, a low-pressure area located over the east-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Andaman Sea is moving west-northwestwards.
The system is likely to develop into a depression today (September 21) and further intensify into a deep depression tomorrow (September 22).
It is expected to move towards the Bay of Bengal, near the coasts of northern Andhra Pradesh and southern Odisha, by around September 23.
Wind speeds in the affected sea areas could increase to 55–65 kmph, with rough to very rough seas expected. Winds could reach up to 70 kmph in areas under warning, accompanied by heavy thundershowers.
The Meteorological Department has advised fishermen and naval operators to avoid fishing and other maritime activities in the affected areas until further notice.
Fishing vessels currently operating in the warned areas have also been advised to move to safer sea areas.
