The Sri Lanka Navy has kept 171 disaster relief teams on standby to assist people affected by the prevailing adverse weather conditions across the country.
As of this morning (21), 14 disaster relief teams have been deployed in the Southern and Western Naval Commands to provide assistance to communities affected by the weather system associated with the low-pressure area formed over the Andaman Sea in the Bay of Bengal, northeast of Sri Lanka.
Under the Southern Naval Command, five teams have been stationed in Tavalama (two teams), Hiniduma (one), Mapalagama (one), and Nagoda (one).
Meanwhile, the Western Naval Command has positioned nine teams in Nawalapitiya (two), Yatiyantota (two), Seethawaka (two), and Ratnapura (three).
The Navy said the teams have been positioned for deployment as required to conduct disaster relief operations and assist affected communities.
