Sri Lanka must break away from traditional frameworks and embrace innovation if the country is to move forward as a nation, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya said.

She emphasized the Government’s objective of transforming Sri Lanka from a country that primarily imports and consumes technological tools developed elsewhere into an innovative nation capable of developing and providing new technological solutions to the world.

The Prime Minister made these remarks while participating in the NSF Award Ceremony for Science Popularization 2026, organized by the National Science Foundation (NSF) under the Ministry of Science and Technology.

The ceremony was held on September 18 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) in Colombo.
