Sri Lanka has surpassed the 1.5 million mark in tourist arrivals so far this year, with more than 1.51 million visitors recorded between January 1 and August 27.
According to data from the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA), a total of 1,517,296 tourists arrived in the country during the period.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka recorded 173,878 tourist arrivals between August 1 and August 27 alone.
India remained the leading source market during August, with 41,781 tourists visiting Sri Lanka. The United Kingdom ranked second with 18,197 arrivals, followed by China with 11,368 arrivals.
India has also maintained its position as Sri Lanka’s largest source market for the year so far, contributing 380,011 tourist arrivals. The United Kingdom followed with 148,598 visitors, while China accounted for 99,875 arrivals.
February recorded the highest monthly tourist arrivals so far this year, with 279,328 visitors.
The latest figures highlight the continued recovery and growth of Sri Lanka’s tourism sector, with the country moving closer to its annual tourism targets.
