The Public Health Inspectors’ (PHI) Union of Sri Lanka is set to launch an island-wide trade union action from 8.00 a.m. today (24), in protest against the transfer of a Public Health Inspector attached to the health office at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA).
The union said the action was prompted by the transfer of Public Health Inspector B.H. Meegasdeniya, who it claims was transferred after raising objections to alleged irregular activities at the airport health office.
According to the union, the relevant authorities had previously been informed of the alleged issues. However, it said the Ministry of Health had failed to provide a satisfactory solution to the matter.
The PHI Union has therefore decided to proceed with the island-wide trade union action, demanding that the authorities address its concerns and take appropriate action regarding the transfer.
The union has maintained that the action is aimed at highlighting what it describes as an unfair administrative decision and pressing the authorities to resolve the matter.
