In a bold move to position itself as a premier destination for foreign investment, Sri Lanka has declared an end to political corruption, signaling a new era of transparency and economic opportunity. The announcement came from Minister of Industry and Enterprise Development, Sunil Handunnetti, during a high-profile meeting with a Canadian business delegation led by Eric Walsh, the High Commissioner for Sri Lanka and the Maldives.

Minister Handunnetti emphasized the government's commitment to creating a business-friendly environment and unveiled a range of new investment opportunities, particularly in the mineral sands and graphite sectors. He invited Canadian businesses to explore these avenues, offering both technological collaboration and capital investment opportunities.

“The government is ensuring an environment of integrity and ease of doing business,” said Handunnetti. “This is the time to invest in Sri Lanka’s untapped potential.”

Eric Walsh praised the country's efforts, noting the high-quality prospects in Sri Lanka’s mineral sands industry and voicing support for the 'Clean Sri Lanka' initiative, which promotes sustainable and ethical business practices.

The meeting, which included Canadian political and trade advisors, also showcased opportunities in 20 additional sectors, including boat manufacturing, value-added spices, and renewable energy. The discussion marked a significant step toward strengthening bilateral economic ties between Sri Lanka and Canada.
