A meeting between President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and a senior delegation from China Communications Construction Company Limited (CCCC), led by Zhang Bingnan, was held this afternoon (11) at the Presidential Secretariat.
The meeting focused primarily on projects currently being implemented and proposed future projects centred on Colombo Port City. PMD reported.
Senior representatives of CCCC noted that the President’s forward-looking programmes and policies have emerged as a key factor in encouraging foreign investment. They emphasised that the confidence placed in the Government’s current programme of work has encouraged the company to explore bringing further significant investment opportunities to Sri Lanka.
They also expressed interest in expanding investment opportunities in Sri Lanka in the areas of renewable energy, trade and logistics and digital services. They noted that Sri Lanka has the potential to position itself as a regional hub in these sectors and attract further investment.
The Chinese company representatives assured that 90% of the workforce employed in their investment projects would be sourced locally, creating significant employment opportunities for Sri Lankans.
Minister of Labour and Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning Dr Anil Jayantha Fernando, Chief of Staff to the President Prabath Chandrakeerthi, Senior Economic Adviser to the President Duminda Hulangamuwa, Senior Additional Secretary to the President Roshan Gamage, Chairman of the Colombo Port City Economic Commission, President’s Counsel Harsha Amarasekera, Director of Overseas Business at CCCC Tang Qiaoliang, Deputy General Manager of the Joint Venture Division Ji Haijun, General Manager of China Harbour Engineering Company Limited (CHEC) Zhang Xiaoqiang, General Manager of CHEC Sri Lanka Wang Gang, Managing Director of CHEC Colombo Port City Xiong Hongfeng and other officials were also present.
