A special investigation board has been appointed to conduct a preliminary inquiry into the accident involving a Sri Lanka Navy fast attack craft in the sea off Angulana.

The Sri Lanka Navy announced this in a statement issued to the media regarding the incident.

Meanwhile, search and rescue operations are continuing to locate the naval officer who went missing following the accident.

Eleven Navy personnel were rescued after the vessel met with the accident on Saturday (15). They are currently receiving medical treatment, and the Navy said their condition is not considered serious.

An operation to salvage the damaged Navy vessel commenced today (16), with Navy divers deployed for the recovery operation.

The Navy said further action will be taken based on the findings of the preliminary investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
