The Election Commission (EC) has confirmed that deposits have been placed for 168 Local Government (LG) institutions as of March 7. This marks significant progress in preparations for the upcoming local elections, with 18 political parties and 57 independent groups having submitted their deposits since March 3.

Among the political parties involved, the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has emerged as a key player. SJB Member of Parliament Nalin Bandara expressed strong confidence in securing victories in a large number of LG bodies, particularly in Colombo. He highlighted the party's strategic approach to contesting the elections and their momentum in the city.

"We are confident that our efforts will resonate with the people of Colombo and across the country, and we are looking forward to significant wins in this crucial electoral period," Bandara stated.

With the election period nearing, attention is now shifting toward the candidates and their political campaigns, as the deposits continue to be finalized by various political entities and independent groups.
