Tragic Bus Fire Claims Life of Pilgrim in Anuradhapura

A tragic incident occurred early this morning when a bus transporting a group of pilgrims caught fire near a rest house close to the Jetavanaramaya in the Udamaluwa Police Division. The pilgrims, hailing from Embilipitiya, had been staying at the rest house during their pilgrimage to Anuradhapura.

The fire broke out in the early hours while the group was resting, and despite efforts to control the blaze, a 55-year-old resident of Embilipitiya, who was aboard the bus, tragically lost his life in the flames.

The Anuradhapura Municipal Council Fire Brigade, together with Anuradhapura and Udamaluwa Police, responded swiftly to the scene, working together to extinguish the fire. Authorities have yet to determine the exact cause of the fire, and investigations are ongoing.

The victim's identity has been confirmed, and condolences have been extended to his family. The tragic incident has shaken the local community, with many expressing their sorrow over the loss.
