In a significant move aimed at combating terrorism, the Sri Lankan government has issued an extraordinary gazette notification banning 15 organizations with links to terrorism.

The notification, signed by Secretary to the Ministry of Defense, Retired Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuiyakontha, highlights the involvement of these groups in providing financial support to terrorism-related activities.

The banned organizations include the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), Tamil Rehabilitation Organization (TRO), Tamil Coordination Committee, and World Tamil Movement. Additionally, several other groups, such as the Transboundary Tamil Eelam State, World Tamil Relief Fund, and National Thowheed Jamaat, are also prohibited under the gazette.

As part of this move, the government has frozen the financial assets and economic resources associated with these organizations. The notification also includes a list of 222 individuals identified as being linked to terrorism.

The decision is part of Sri Lanka's ongoing efforts to prevent the financing of terrorist activities and enhance national security.
