The Irrigation Department has issued a warning of potential minor flooding in several areas of Ampara and Batticaloa districts following heavy rainfall in the region.

The department has identified low-lying areas within the Mundeni Basin, under the Maha Oya Divisional Secretariat Division in Ampara, as well as the Eravurpattu and Koraleipattu Divisional Secretariat Divisions in Batticaloa, as areas at risk of flooding within the next 24 hours.

Additionally, the warning extends to areas along the Maduru Oya, Malwathu Oya, and Yan Oya in the Ampara District. The department has also highlighted concerns over the potential flooding of the Manampitiya area along the Mahaweli River.

Authorities have urged residents in these areas to take precautionary measures and remain vigilant. Local officials are monitoring the situation closely and have advised the public to avoid travel through flood-prone areas if possible.

The Irrigation Department will continue to issue updates as the situation develops.
