Army Chief Pays Homage to Sri Dalada Maligawa

Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP psc IG, the newly appointed Commander of the Army, visited 'Sri Dalada Maligawa (the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic)' in Kandy on 04 January 2025. The visit marked the Commander's first visit to Sri Dalada Maligawa since assuming the office as the 25th Commander of the Sri Lanka Army. Upon arrival, the Army Chief was welcomed by the Administrative Secretary of 'Sri Dalada Maligawa'.

Mr. Nilanga Dela Bandara, the Diyawadana Nilame (Chief Custodian of Sri Dalada Maligawa), greeted the Commander with a tray of jasmine flowers and later presented a special memento to mark the occasion. In turn, the Army Chief reciprocated the gesture. Following this, the Commander, accompanied by Sri Dalada Maligawa officials, paid his respects at the sacred site.

After a few minutes, the Commander of the Army, in conformity with age-old traditions, visited the Malwatte Monastery, where he had the privilege of meeting the Most Venerable Tibbotuwawe Sri Sumangala Maha Nayake Thero, the Chief Prelate of the Malwatte Chapter. During the interaction, the Malwatte Prelate invoked blessings upon the Commander and exchanged thoughtful words with the Army Chief.
