Navy’s rapid response brought passengers aboard in Perl Link safely to shore

Sri Lanka Navy promptly responded to a maritime distress of the passenger craft Perl Link, capsized at sea on 12 Jul 25, while carrying a group of local tourists from Delft Island to Kurikadduwan Jetty. Responding rapidly to the developments, the Sri Lanka Navy rendered assistance to evacuate all twelve (12) tourists and two (02) crew members on board and brought them ashore unharmed.

SLNS Wasaba in Delft Island received an alert about the sinking passenger craft in nearby waters and immediately dispatched a naval craft with lifesaving gear. With assistance from another nearby boat, all fourteen (14) individuals were successfully retrieved and transferred to Kurikadduwan Jetty.

It has been reported that the accident occurred during the return journey from Delft Island, causing sea water to flood the passenger craft, leading to its eventual sinking.
