In response to heavy rainfall, all six spill gates of the Nachchaduwa Tank have been opened, releasing water at a rate of 4,352 cubic feet per second into the Malwathu Oya and Kandy Lake. Irrigation engineers have issued a warning for residents in low-lying areas along both sides of the Malwathu Oya to remain vigilant as the water flow could lead to flooding.

In addition, the Mahaweli Authority has taken emergency action to control a breach at the Welikanda Magulpokuna Lake spillway by deploying sandbags. Officers from the Sinhapura Army Camp, Welikanda Police, and the Welikanda Divisional Secretariat, along with local villagers, have all joined efforts to manage the situation and minimize damage.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have urged the public to stay informed about the ongoing weather conditions.
