Prime Minister Highlights Importance of Building a Skilled Workforce
She made these remarks yesterday (December 27) at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall during a certificate awarding ceremony for students who completed diploma programs under the Sri Lanka Vocational Training Authority.
At the event, certificates were presented to 761 young individuals who successfully completed diploma courses in 13 subjects.
Speaking at the ceremony, Prime Minister Amarasuriya said, “A nation’s development depends on individuals with diverse skills. Our government is committed to ensuring no one is left behind in the education system. Youth must acquire relevant skills for full employment, and fostering entrepreneurial capabilities is essential.
“Our policy aims to provide technical and vocational education from schools to tertiary levels, enabling broader access to education and training that align with labor market needs. Every profession should be valued, and individuals entering any field must feel recognized and confident in their roles.
“The youth of Sri Lanka hold immense potential to shape a brighter future. To unlock this, we must prioritize vocational and technical education, enhance training infrastructure, and create diverse pathways for youth to thrive in their careers. The government is dedicated to expanding opportunities in this sector to meet the demands of both local and global markets.”
The event was attended by Acting Chairman of the Vocational Training Authority Samanthi Senanayake, Director General Major General Priyantha Weerasinghe, and the diploma recipients.
