A new initiative to reduce rural poverty will begin in January 2025, according to the Minister of Rural Development, Social Security, and Community Empowerment, Upali Pannilage.

The program aims to be implemented in all districts, with the first step being the creation of development plans for each village. These plans will be designed with the direct involvement of local residents to ensure their needs are addressed effectively.

This initiative will be a collaborative effort involving government ministries, local and provincial authorities, and both private and public sector organizations.

The program is expected to drive sustainable development and improve living standards in rural areas.
