The Commissioner General of Elections announced that 764 nomination papers were submitted by political parties and independent groups for the 2024 General Election from 22 electoral districts across Sri Lanka. However, only 690 of these nominations were accepted, with 74 being rejected.

Speaking to reporters on 11th October (Today) after the nomination period ended, the Commissioner revealed that the Digamadulla district received the highest number of nominations with 72, of which 64 were accepted. The lowest number of nominations was recorded jointly from the Polonnaruwa and Monaragala districts, with 15 each.

The nomination period began on 4th October and concluded at noon on 11th October (Today), with objections allowed until 1:30 p.m. according to the Commissioner General of Elections, preference numbers for candidates will be announced soon.
