Ven. Rambukana Siddhartha Thera, the revered Buddhist monk and acclaimed lyricist who touched the hearts of generations of Sri Lankan music lovers through his meaningful songs, passed away yesterday while receiving treatment at a hospital. He was 76.

The Thera was the lyricist behind numerous award-winning and widely cherished Sinhala songs that brought comfort and inspiration to listeners across the country.

He also served for a period as the head of the Jinarathana Training Institute at the Hunupitiya Gangaramaya Temple.

His remains are scheduled to be placed at the Sri Sudharmaramaya Temple in Wellawatte this afternoon for public homage. The remains will be kept there until Friday to allow the public to pay their final respects.

The final rites of Ven. Rambukana Siddhartha Thera will be held on Friday afternoon at the Sri Saranankara Grounds in Dehiwala.
