The placing of cash deposits by candidates to contest the upcoming Presidential Election will end at 12 noon today 14th August. Election Commission Chairman R. M.A.L. Rathnayake said.
Chairman of Election Commission says that acceptance of nominations for the upcoming presidential election will be scheduled tomorrow from 9.00 am to 11.00 am
Objections regarding nominations can be made from 11.00 am to 11.30 am.
Special security arrangements implemented to the Election Commission and the surrounding area during this time.
The area will be made a high security zone and only authorized persons and authorized vehicles can enter the zone.
Public institutions and hospitals around Sarana Mawatha will be closed during the acceptance of nominations, so the public has been requested to refrain from coming to surrounding area of the EC.
The chairman of the commission stated that only the candidate and two persons can come to hand over the nominations and they have been issued special permits.
Also, three more guests will be allowed to stay in the building next to the election commissioner's office.
Only the vehicle carrying the candidate can enter Sarana Mawatha. The candidate should park the vehicle near the last roadblock on Sarana Mawatha and walk to the election office.
The Commission stated that demonstrations are prohibited after submission of nominations.
EC Mr. Ananda Ratnayake stated that the European Union and the Commonwealth of Nations have requested to monitor the election proceedings and will do so at their expense.
It is said that around 1500 police and STF personnel will be deployed for the security of the election office on the day of acceptance of nominations.
