Sri Lanka Cricket to get new Constitution

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a new constitution for Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), following a decision made at the cabinet meeting held on February 19, 2024. The approval comes after extensive deliberations and recommendations aimed at addressing various challenges faced by Sri Lankan cricket.
A committee, chaired by retired Supreme Court Judge K.T. Chithrasiri, was appointed to draft the new constitution. This appointment followed the recommendations of a cabinet subcommittee led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, which was tasked with studying the issues encountered by Sri Lankan cricket and proposing solutions.
The new constitution, drafted by Judge Chithrasiri's committee, has now been endorsed by the Cabinet of Ministers. A joint proposal to instruct the Legal Draftsman to prepare a bill for the formal approval and implementation of the new constitution was presented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Power and Energy, the Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment, and the Minister of Public Security.
This move is expected to bring significant reforms to Sri Lanka Cricket, ensuring better governance and addressing long-standing issues within the sport.
