US welcomes Sri Lanka’s Presidential Election announcement

US Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Julie Chung, has expressed her support for the Election Commission's announcement of the presidential election scheduled for September 21. 

In a statement on the social media platform ‘X,’ Ambassador Chung praised the decision as a testament to Sri Lanka’s enduring dedication to democratic principles. 

“We welcome the Election Commission’s announcement of the September 21 presidential elections, which reaffirms Sri Lanka’s longstanding commitment to democracy,” Chung stated. “We look forward to witnessing free and fair elections that empower Sri Lankan citizens to shape their future.”
