Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Parliamentarian Eran Wickramaratne has called on the government to ensure the safety of Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, stressing the need for adequate security measures for the SJB’s presidential candidate.
In light of the recent assassination attempt on former U.S. President Donald Trump, Wickramaratne expressed concerns about Premadasa's security, citing potential threats from parties aiming to delay elections. Speaking at a press briefing today, he condemned the attack on Trump as an assault on democracy and criticized politicians who engage in such tactics.
"Some political parties in Sri Lanka resort to these methods when they fail to achieve their political agendas," Wickramaratne stated, referencing past attacks on candidates. He emphasized that the government must be held accountable for Premadasa's security and reiterated his call for immediate action to ensure his protection.
