The Election Commission will declare the Presidential Elections at the end of this month, allowing polling to occur between September 17 and October 17, an official stated.

According to the Constitution, the Presidential Election must be concluded no less than one month and no more than two months before the current presidential term ends. The current term expires on November 18, so the election must be completed before October 18.

Commission Chairman R.M.A.L. Rathnayake announced that nominations would be accepted from candidates on a date between 16 and 21 days from the declaration. Polling will then take place between four and six weeks after that.

As part of the election preparations, the Commission has scheduled a meeting today with the Inspector General of Police, the Postmaster General, and the Government Printer to discuss the election arrangements.
