Ellawalage Sarath Kumara, known as 'Chitee', purported associate of notorious organized crime figure Maddumage Lasantha Chandana Perera, alias 'Angoda Lokka', has been arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake.
The 47-year-old suspect was intercepted as he tried to board a flight using a counterfeit passport. His identification was made possible through the utilization of the Automated Facial Recognition System (AFRS) at the airport departure terminal.
Further scrutiny into Kumara's background has unveiled his significant ties to Angoda Lokka, as well as his alleged involvement in illicit activities, including the trafficking of ICE drugs, for which he was sought by the Mulleriya police.
Also, it was revealed that the suspect is involved in many other crimes such as shooting and killing a person in the Wellampitiya police area in 2011.
The suspect has been handed over to the Mulleriyawa Police for further investigation.
