The Department of Meteorology has warned of strong winds and rough sea conditions in several offshore areas around Sri Lanka.
Winds in the sea areas extending from Kankesanthurai to Chilaw via Mannar, and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota, are expected to occasionally increase to 50–60 km/h, causing the seas to become rough at times.
Meanwhile, sea waves in the offshore areas from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Matara could rise to around 2.0–2.5 metres, according to the Department.
The Department of Meteorology has urged fishing and naval communities to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions while operating in these sea areas.
