The faction of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) under the leadership of Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva has designated MP Duminda Dissanayake as the party's Acting General Secretary.
The decision was formalized during a politburo meeting convened by Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva's faction earlier this evening (April 25).
This move follows recent legal proceedings, as on Wednesday (April 24), the Colombo District Court issued an injunction restraining MP Sarathie Dushmantha Mithrapala from assuming the role of SLFP General Secretary. The court order also prohibits the implementation of any decisions made by Mithrapala in his capacity as Acting General Secretary.
The injunction, effective until May 8, 2024, was granted in response to a petition filed by Ministers Mahinda Amaraweera, Lasantha Alagiyawanna, and Member of Parliament Duminda Dissanayake. These legal actions underscore the ongoing internal dynamics and legal disputes within the SLFP.
