Sri Lanka is gearing up to welcome the 34th plenary meeting of the International Standards Organization (ISO) Technical Committee for tea, scheduled for July 24th.
The prestigious event will be organized under the joint leadership of the Tea Research Institute of Sri Lanka and the Sri Lanka Standards Institution, announced Niraj de Mel, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Tea Board.
With participation expected from representatives of over 45 member countries, the meeting promises to be a pivotal platform for global dialogue and collaboration within the tea industry.
Sanjaya Herath, Chairman of the Colombo Tea Traders Association, highlighted that the agenda will encompass comprehensive discussions and evaluations on various international market parameters essential for tea production worldwide.
Key topics slated for review include biochemical, physical, and biological standards that tea-producing nations are expected to adhere to.
This gathering holds particular significance as it marks the first physical meeting of the ISO Technical Committee since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
The meeting aims to foster cooperation among stakeholders and set robust standards to ensure the quality and sustainability of the global tea trade.
