In a significant step towards enhancing bilateral relations, Iran and Sri Lanka inked five Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) on Wednesday, the 24th of April. 

The signing ceremony, graced by the presence of President Ranil Wickremesinghe and President Dr. Ebrahim Raisi, marks a milestone in the collaboration between the two nations.

The agreements encompass a wide array of sectors, including film, media, tourism, cooperatives, libraries, and cultural, scientific, technical, and sports cooperation. Among the notable agreements are:

1. Cooperation in Library Services: The MoU between the National Library of Sri Lanka and the National Library and Archives of Iran aims to foster exchange and collaboration in the preservation and dissemination of knowledge.

2. Boosting the Film Industry: The agreement between the National Film Corporation of Sri Lanka and the Ministry of Cultural and Islamic Guidance of Iran seeks to strengthen ties in the vibrant field of cinema, opening avenues for collaboration and exchange of expertise.

3. Promoting Media and Tourism: Sri Lanka and Iran have committed to enhancing cooperation in media and tourism, recognizing the potential for mutual benefit in these vital sectors.

4. Comprehensive Cultural, Scientific, and Technical Collaboration: The agreement on cultural, scientific, technical, and sports cooperation sets the stage for a multifaceted partnership between the two countries, encompassing various aspects of societal development and engagement.

5. Cooperative Endeavors: The Memorandum of Understanding between the National Co-Operative Council of Sri Lanka and Iran Chamber of Cooperatives reflects the commitment to fostering cooperative initiatives and bolstering economic ties.

President Dr. Ebrahim Raisi's visit to Sri Lanka includes the inauguration of the Uma Oya Multipurpose Development Project (UOMDP), underscoring Iran's interest in contributing to Sri Lanka's infrastructure development.
