The eagerly awaited electricity sector reforms in Sri Lanka have taken a significant step forward with the publication of the proposed reforms in the government gazette on Wednesday (17).
Dubbed the 'Sri Lanka Electricity Bill,' this pivotal legislation marks a milestone in the nation's energy landscape.
Minister of Power and Energy, Kanchana Wijesekara, took to 'X' (formerly Twitter) to announce the development, revealing that the Bill will be presented to Parliament during the upcoming sitting week.
Notably, Wijesekara highlighted that the revised Bill incorporates amendments suggested by stakeholders in January, indicating a collaborative approach to policy-making.
Furthermore, Wijesekara emphasized that the public will have a two-week window from the Bill's presentation to Parliament to contest its legality in the Supreme Court, ensuring transparency and accountability in the legislative process.
