An Excise officer has been arrested in Wariyapola for tampering with a song and spreading it through social media.
Police said that the Computer Crime Investigation Division of the CID launched an investigation after receiving a complaint from the Inspector General of Police regarding the distortion of the 'Sooriya Mangalya' song. This song is broadcast regularly during the Sinhala and Tamil New Year and is sung by veteran singer Rohana Beddage with the Ranwala Corps.
The North West Provincial Unit of the Computer Crime Investigation Division conducted an investigation and arrested a suspect in Wariyapola yesterday.
The suspect, a 31-year-old Excise officer from the Talathuoya area, was handed over to the Wariyapola Police Station.
The arrested suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Kuliyapitiya Magistrate's Court today."
