The controversy surrounding former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella has escalated as it has been alleged that the official vehicles assigned to him during his tenure have not been handed over, despite his remand. According to a Health Ministry official, the vehicles are still being utilized by Rambukwella's family members.

The official further disclosed that not only are the official vehicles still in use, but also the official residence provided to Rambukwella at Wijerama Mawatha has not been surrendered as per protocol.

Under normal circumstances, when a public official is remanded, all privileges and perks associated with their position are revoked immediately. Therefore, the fact that Rambukwella's family members continue to use the official vehicles raises questions about special treatment.

Moreover, it has been alleged that these vehicles, including a Toyota Prado and a Mercedes-type vehicle, are being used by Rambukwella's family members to visit him at Welikada Prison where he is currently held.

The situation has been compounded by the revelation that over 600 vehicles are reportedly missing, leading to suspicions about the continued use of these vehicles by the family members of former Health Ministers.

This development has sparked public concern and calls for transparency regarding the handling of official assets and privileges, especially in cases where public officials are under legal scrutiny.
