The Road Development Authority (RDA) has reported a significant surge in revenue from expressways during the recent Sinhala and Tamil New Year season.

According to Eng. Priyantha Suriyabandara, the Director General of the RDA, the expressways generated an impressive income of Rs. 235 million within a span of six days, from April 10 to April 15.

This year's earnings mark a substantial increase of approximately Rs. 80 million compared to the same period in 2023, indicating a notable uptick in expressway usage and revenue generation. Eng. Suriyabandara attributed this boost in revenue to heightened traffic volume during the festive season, particularly as individuals travel to their hometowns and embark on vacations.

The surge in income underscores the vital role of expressways in facilitating smooth transportation and connectivity, especially during peak travel periods.
