The Sri Lanka Immigration & Emigration Officers’ Association (SLIEOA) has commenced a 24-hour symbolic strike in protest against changes to the service system.
The strike aims to highlight the cancellation of a more efficient service system, which has led to significant challenges for serving officers.
K.P. Manawadu, Secretary of SLIEOA, emphasized the unnecessary pressure faced by officers due to decisions made by departmental authorities. The symbolic strike commenced at 9 a.m. and is scheduled to continue until 9 a.m. tomorrow.
Manawadu explained that the strike involves officers wearing black belts and distributing leaflets at airports and seaports across the country.
Despite the action, he assured that there would be no disruption or inconvenience to passengers. He emphasized the commitment of officers to conduct themselves professionally to uphold the country's reputation.
