Indigo, a prominent player in the aviation sector, has announced the inauguration of direct flights between Mumbai and Colombo, further enhancing air connectivity between India and Sri Lanka. 

Commencing from April 12th, the new service will operate thrice weekly on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.With this strategic expansion, Indigo now serves four key destinations in India from Colombo, including Chennai (twice daily), Bengaluru (once daily), and Hyderabad (six days a week). 

This augmentation to four destinations underscores the airline's commitment to fostering travel, trade, and tourism ties between the two nations.

The addition of Mumbai-Colombo flights bolsters Indigo's weekly flight frequency to Colombo to a robust 30 flights, servicing major cities in India. 

Eng. Athula Galketiya, Chairman of Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (Pvt) Limited (AASL), expressed optimism regarding the prospects of this collaboration, emphasizing its potential to bolster economic and cultural exchanges.

In addition to the Mumbai-Colombo route, AASL has negotiated with Indigo to introduce direct flight operations between Jaffna and Chennai, slated to commence on June 1st, 2024.
