Police opened fire on a lorry transporting cattle in Kananke early Thursday after the driver refused to stop, resulting in one person inside the vehicle sustaining gunshot wounds.
The injured individual was admitted to Karapitiya Teaching Hospital. Two others reportedly fled the scene as police approached.
The incident occurred around 4.30 a.m. near Kananke Raja Maha Viharaya during a routine patrol, where officers noticed cattle being loaded onto the lorry.
Despite police signals to stop, the driver accelerated, prompting the officers to fire at the vehicle.
