The Election Commission of Sri Lanka has officially launched the process of preparing the electoral register for the current year, beginning today, April 9th.
Activities related to the compilation of the electoral register are set to continue until May 10th, according to the Election Secretariat.
This initiative aims to rectify any omissions in the electoral register, providing eligible individuals with the opportunity to ensure their names are included, allowing them to exercise their voting rights.
To facilitate this, the Election Secretariat has announced that eligible voters can add their names to the relevant lists at their respective Grama Niladhari offices or election offices located across the country.
In a separate development, the Election Commission has been granted the authority to call for nominations for the Presidential Election from July 17, 2024, onwards.
Anticipations suggest that the Presidential Election is likely to be held at the end of September or the first week of October.
Earlier, on April 1st, the Election Commission affirmed the completion of preliminary arrangements necessary for conducting the presidential election.
