The Police Special Task Force uncovered an 81mm mortar weapon suspected to have been concealed by LTTE terrorists during the war in Periyathattamuru, Vakare.
Acting on information received at the Special Task Force Vakare Camp, officers conducted a raid in the Periyathattamuru area.
A group of individuals engaged in cultivation work discovered the mortar weapon and alerted authorities. Special Task Force officers promptly investigated the scene, confirming the weapon's identity and subsequently handed it over to the Vakare police station for further examination.
Police suspect this weapon to be part of the cache hidden by LTTE militants during the conflict.
