The Maligakanda Magistrate's Court has directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to investigate the credibility of former President Maithripala Sirisena's statement regarding the controversial Easter Sunday attacks. Magistrate Lochani Abeywickrema ordered the CID to report on the progress of this investigation by May 10.

Former President Sirisena, through his lawyer, informed the court on April 3 that he would not provide a confidential statement regarding his revelation about the Easter Sunday attacks. This decision came after the CID had earlier requested his appearance in court on April 4.

In response, a lawyer representing Sirisena stated that his client had already given a detailed statement to the CID and therefore did not intend to provide a confidential statement in court. The CID had previously submitted a facts report to the court regarding Sirisena's recent statement, following instructions from Minister of Public Security Tiran Alas to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the matter.
