e Colombo District Court has issued an interim injunction order preventing the Sri Lanka Freedom Party’s (SLFP) Executive Committee from removing Duminda Dissanayake, Lasantha Alagiyawanna, and Mahinda Amaraweera from their respective positions in the party.
During a special party meeting held on Tuesday (March 30), the SLFP's Executive Committee decided to remove Dissanayake from his role as National Organizer, Alagiyawanna as Treasurer, and Amaraweera as Senior Vice President. However, the court's injunction halted these removals temporarily.
In response to this development, the SLFP appointed new officials to fill the vacated positions. K. P. Gunawardena, the Mahiyanganaya Constituency Organizer, was appointed as the new National Organizer. Hector Bethmage, a former Western Provincial Minister, assumed the role of Treasurer, while Sarath Ekanayake, the former Central Province Chief Minister, became the new Senior Vice President.
This decision was communicated to SLFP members during a special party meeting chaired by former President Maithripala Sirisena, who is also the Chairman of the SLFP. The meeting took place amidst controversy surrounding Sirisena's statements concerning the masterminds behind the Easter attacks.
